In three weeks, I can *officially* start celebrating Halloween by getting out all my Nightmare Before Christmas figures, singing “What’s This” at every given opportunity and pumpkin-ing ALL THE THINGS. Including the dog treats…or maybe, especially the dog treats. To get in that Halloweenie kind of mood, I’m sharing a Halloween treat recipe for your pooch to enjoy.
Pumpkin is one of our favourite ingredients here at Fetch. It’s a great low calorie source of fibre, which means it can help your dog feel full without packing on a ton of calories. When I use it in treats, I don’t mind using a bit of peanut butter to punch up the flavour. Peanuts are a little high in calories, pumpkin is a little low, it all balances out! It’s also our go – to item when one of the dogs has a bit of an upset tummy, since it can help “smooth things out”.
1 cup. All Purpose Baking Mix
1/2 tsp. Guar Gum
– If your dog is grain tolerant, you could absolutely sub. 1 cup of white flour and omit the guar gum
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. ginger
1/2 tsp. ground cloves
2/3 c. Fruitables Pumpkin & Ginger Digestive Supplement
1/3 c. natural, sugar free peanut butter
1/3 c. melted coconut oil
1/4 c. water
extra coconut oil + GF Flour to prep the pans
How we do it:
Preheat oven to 350F.
In a medium bowl, mix together GF flour, guar gum, baking soda and spices.
In a separate bowl, whisk together egg, pumpkin, peanut butter, coconut oil and water.
Add the we ingredients to the dry and stir until combined.
Grease a muffin tin with coconut oil and dust with flour.
Fill each tin half full.
Place into the oven and bake for 17 – 20 minutes until baked through. If you want a crunchy treat, turn the oven down to 150F and leave in the oven for 2 – 3 hours.
So,get baking and don't forget to send us pictures of your pooch waiting to lick the bowl. Post on Facebook.com/fetchdogwalkingltd
